Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine fame has been named Music Will’s 2023 Benefit Honoree. He was chosen as the charity's honoree due to his dedication to music education and political activism. Morello has been working with the charity since 2012.

On October 17, Morello kicked off the charity's first school visit of the year at Van Nuys High School in Van Nuys, California. During his visit, he visited the school's music class, hosted a Q&A, donated instruments to the school, and brought students together to sing "This Land is Your Land" by Woodie Guthrie. Morello donated a guitar, a bass, and a drum kit to the high school.

This is the first stop of many slotted for the rest of the year. Morello and the charity plan to visit Harlem, NY, and Marseilles, IL this November.

“One of the things that we hear when we come out and visit schools and talk to kids is how much music is not only their tool for self-expression, but when they become part of a band, whether it’s a classroom band or a band with friends, kids are saying, ‘I finally found my tribe,’” Music Will Interim CEO Janice Pollizzotto told the students.

Music Will has served 1.6 million students and counting, donated over 100,000 instruments and equipment, and supported over 6,000 schools nationwide. Over 70 colleges and universities use Music Will's approach to music education majors.
