On January 12, 2024, multi-platinum, chart topping artist Lil Tjay released his brand-new single "Told Ya" - listen HERE now! The single follows Lil Tjay's completion of his Beat The Odds Tour across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in December in support of his album 222. The 15-track album features a note-worthy, star-studded lineup of collaborations including Polo G, NBA Youngboy, Summer Walker, The Kid Laroi and more. Lil Tjay is wasting no time jumping back into music this year with "Told Ya" hinting at a new full-length impending from the rapper.

Tione Jayden Merritt, famed under the pseudonym Lil Tjay, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter based out of The Bronx in New York. He rose to prominence in 2017 with his song "Resume", and then the release of his breakthrough song "Brothers" which led to a record deal with Columbia Records, also in 2017. In his first year alone, Lil Tjay reached countless milestones in the industry and sought fame almost instantly. His debut album, True 2 Myself, was released in 2019 and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 charts, marking the album as his first charting project as well as his first studio album as a whole. The following year, Lil Tjay pushed boundaries with his mixtape State of Emergency which featured only drill artists from New York City and included the single "Calling My Phone" (featuring 6lack), his highest-charting song presently. In 2023, Lil Tjay released the song "Gangsta Boo" with fellow New York artist Ice Spice in procession to his album 222 which released in July of that year. Prior to the album's release, Merritt released short documentaries on his social media which depicts the struggle the album embodies of his journey through the pivotal moment in Lil Tjay's life where he survived a traumatic shooting in June of 2022.

As usual, "Told Ya" addresses themes of struggle, street life and Tjay's personal experiences rising to fame. "Told Ya" tells the story of Lil Tjay graduating from being a street rapper to becoming a mega rapstar in the industry with lines referencing his come up such as "Told y'all n*ggas a million times 'I'm gon' make it,'" and "Overworked for all them times when we was starvin' for days." Musically, Lil Tjay is recognized for his distinctive voice and smooth delivery which is showcased explicitly throughout this track. The flow is seamless and continues to enhance Tjay's mastery of breath control in fitting exaggerated syllables into one line of a rap. Tjay frequently utilizes auto-tune to enhance his vocal melodies, which contributes to the melodic and catchy sound heard in this release that further makes it accessible to a broad audience. Overall, Lil Tjay's musical style is characterized by a melodic approach to rap, blending elements of traditional hip-hop with contemporary influences, and his ability to connect with listeners through his authentic and emotionally resonant content.
